I want to thank you for visiting my website and for your interest in chiropractic care. I am originally from East Northport, New York and am the youngest of three boys. My grandfather was a firefighter in New York City and my father was a police officer in New York City. I wanted to follow in their footsteps by choosing a profession that helps people, but I was not sure which one.
Best regards,
Dr. Robert M. Shortell
I can still remember my first visit to the chiropractor. I was about 21 years old and my main problem was severe neck pain and constant ear infections. Imagine that a 21-year-old would still have ear infections. I thought it was just a problem common with children. I have probably taken more antibiotics than anyone else I know. I went to the chiropractor and he did an exam and took some x-rays. He told me that my ear problems weren't actually ear infections, they were caused by my neck pain. He proceeded to discuss the exam results and then explained how he could help me.
He wanted to "adjust" my neck to line up the bones that were out of position. I was very nervous about the adjustment because he wanted to move bones in my spine. Anyway, to make a long story short, the chiropractor "adjusted" my neck and I heard these popping noises. I initially thought he did something wrong. When I was done with my adjustment I could instantly move my neck better. Within a week my ear pain was gone and has never returned.
That is when I realized that chiropractic had something to offer me. I thought medication was the only answer to pain. I was so grateful to find out that there was a natural way of not just curing ear infections but stopping them altogether.
I had found the profession that would allow me to help people naturally and change their lives. I then decided to enroll in Life University in Marietta, Georgia, to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. While attending school I immersed myself in many different organizations to learn different techniques of adjusting, such as: CBP (Chiropractic Biophysics - correcting spinal curvature), Cox Technique (lower back disc), Thompson Technique, Diversified Technique (full spine adjusting) and Extremity Adjusting (arms, hands, shoulders, legs, etc.). In addition, I have extensive training in neurological conditions as the nervous system and the spine are intertwined and dependent upon each other for the body to function properly.
After graduating from Life, I moved to Connecticut to replace a doctor who was relocating to another state. I took over his practice in Cromwell and have been there since 1997. In that time, I have been fortunate to help thousands of people to regain their health naturally through chiropractic care.
I look forward to meeting you and getting you started on your pathway to health. I am always available to talk with you and answer any questions you may have regarding how chiropractic care can help you.
I have been a client of Dr. Shortell's for many years. He is a great, personable, chiropractor. I always feel better when I leave his care. The bonus is that he has a great staff. Jen, Emma and Deb are great. I would recommend your visiting his practice and obtaining care from him.

It’s hard to explain but once my pain was gone I had a comparison of life without pain which showed me just how much pain I was in but at the same time had become accustomed to. Give yourself the life you deserve and go see Dr. Shortell who is professional and highly recommended!

Dr. Shortell is very thorough, informative and personable. I’ve had mild back and hip pain for years with occasional flair ups. I’m feeling like new again after consistent adjustments. My only regret is not deciding to make an appointment sooner.
